Theme MALDIVES

A few of our sims are "themed". This means, that residents owning or renting land in those sims have to conform to a small set of building rules in addition to the Covenant of The OTHERLAND Group. These rules are not intended to torture our fellow Otherlanders but to preserve an overall look in the sim (usually the look that initially attracted people to the sim at first).

The following sims on The OTHERLAND Archipelago are themed "Maledives":

Ellaidhu   Kanuhurae
Maayafushi   Kolamaafushi
Male   Meradhoo
Gan   Maarandhoo
Khao   Kudalafari
Kuredhu   Naivaadhoo
Hinnavatu   Nellaidhoo
Neifaru   Maidhoo
Komandhoo   Viligili
Derleth   Maamendhoo
Kurendhoo   Dhaandhoo
Fahdoo   Viligili
Hudhufushi
Maidhoo   Nomanisan *

The Theme

The "real" Maledives", which inspired us to create these beautiful sims are a chain of small coral islands near the equator (in the vincinity of India). Living and building on a sim with this theme means:

  • Buildings have to be either "south-sea-style" huts/tikis, Bali-style long houses or low slung bungelows. There is no need to build only little huts.
We do allow stylish bungelow built from white concrete, (a little) steel and glass, too. But no other types of "modern" buildings and no strongly themed building. For example: no "american praerie" or victorian houses, no palace, no medieval castles, skyscrapers or futuristic buildings.
  • Houses should be only one or two story buildings. Story height should not be more than 7m. This means houses can't be taller than 15m. If you build your house more than 10m high, we would like to suggest, that you do NOT place such a building on top of a hill, but embed it in the landscape and enclose it with some vegetation to not let it stand out too prominently.
  • Contrary to the rules stated in the Covenant, houses can be build 'on water' as long as these houses are small buildings on stilts, directly connected to the land and done in a definitely 'southsea island style'. What we mean here are small wooden huts, gazebos and the like similar to those you would find on the Maldives, Fidji, the Seychelles etc.
  • Don't use giant rocks (especially no megaprims) to change the general landscape. We use this kind if rocks on some islands ourselves. This is no legetimation to use them yourself (because they change the surrounding dramatically for existing neighbors). If you are looking for a south sea island with this kind of rocks, please ask us first.
  • The parcels should not be deforrested. Either the initial vegetation has to stay in place (usually palms, tropic plants and flowers) or some vegetation in a similar style has to be replaced after building. We will gladly supply you with automated tree seeds that make it very easy to rebuild some vegetation. You can add your own vegetation, of course, but it should "fit" in style with the initial one. (No needle trees, olive trees or blooming pink cherry trees for example.)
  • No flying structures in the air below 400m. This means buildings. Eagles are welcome! :)

That's it. The OTHERLAND Covenant is applicable to, of course. Nothing to serious, we hope. But if you simply can not live with these rules ... we have a lot of other areas available on the OTHERLAND Estate that are not themed at all. :)
